In Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

Yuan Shao wished to borrow food from Han Fu, Protector of Ji Province, and collected enough meat to fuel his army. However, Peng Ji planned for his lord to attack and seize Ji Province and wrote a letter to Gongsun Zan to organize a joint attack. Han Fu recieved a letter from Yuan Shao regarding the danger of Gongsun Zan. Adviser Xun Chang told him that Yuan Shao would treat him with generosity and Han Fu sent Guan Chun to give Yuan Shao a message. But Geng Wu remonstrated with Han Fu and told him that Yuan Shao was the real threat. Han Fu snubbed him and reassured him that Yuan Shao was a great man. Geng Wu and Guan Chun waited for Yuan Shao to attack. The two men were killed when Yuan Shao invaded the province. Han Fu was made a general in the ranks of Yuan Shao's army. Gongsun Yue demanded his share of the region to Yuan Shao after hearing of the invasion, and was killed by several soldiers claiming to be soldiers of Prime Minister Dong Zhuo. Gongsun Zan knew that Yuan Shao was behind the attack and avenged his brother. Yuan Shao's general Wen Chou rode out with his spear and let Gongsun Zan draw off from the inital duel. Zhao Yun then charged at Wen Chou and forced him off. The young officer recently served Yuan Shao but abandoned him and joined the ranks of Gongsun Zan. Now, Gongsun Zan had 5,000 cavalry in the center, the "White Riders". On Yuan Shao's side Yan Liang and Wen Chou had 2,000 soldiers while Qu Yi in the center had 800 Crossbowmen and 10,000 infantry and cavalry. Yan Guang, commander of the vanguard of Gongsun Zan, charged at Qu Yi's soldiers. Qu Yi cut him down, and the forces of Yuan Shao charged the Gongsun Zan forces. Zhao Yun killed Qu Yi while chasing down Gongsun Zan, and the final victory was on his side. Yuan Shao's General Tian Feng and a few guards looked on at his enemy and thought that the battle was won. However, the redoubtable Zhao Yun was coming towards Yuan Shao himself. Yuan Shao was reinforced by the main body and Yan Liang, and charged. Gongsun Zan and his army retreated, but the arrival of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei turned the tables. Yuan Shao fled the battlefront and the forces of Gongsun Zan were victorious.
