Ding Feng was a Wu general, later on becoming commander-in-chief of its armed forces. He was known for serving Wu for over seventy years.

Biography[]

Ding Feng was serving Wu since Sun Quan came to power. In 208 he took part in the Battle of Jiang Xia, where Sun Quan crushed Huang Zu. He was made a general after the Battle of Chi Bi, where he commanded some of the naval ships in the front line against Cao Cao. He served at the Battle of Nan Jun, then fought in many other battles against Wei and Shu, notably at the Battle of Yi Ling. His shining moment was in 222 fighting off Cao Pi's invasion at the Battle of Dong Kou, when he killed Zhang Liao with a bow. Ding Feng took part in Sun Quan's Northern Expeditions, such as the Battle of Shi Ting and the Battle of He Fei Castle. In the latter battle Sun Quan retreated after Cao Rui arrived with reinforcements. He earned a reputation for his services under Sun Quan, but when he died he became General-in-Chief of Wu. Ding Feng spent his time under Sun Liang aiding rebellions against Sima Shi and Sima Zhao, as well as massacring [[Zhuge Dan]'s ferocious invasion in 252. At Hefei Castle one year later, he rescued Zhuge Ke from Sima Shi before he was about to be killed. Ding Feng later aided in Zhuge Dan's rebellion, but his mission to save the defecting Wei general ended in a failure. In 263, Ding Feng invaded Wei to try and save Shu, but was defeated at Shouchun. After Sun Xiu died, he was appointed by Sun Hao as the Right Grand Marshal and Left Military Advisor. But he became arrogant and his invasion attempts of Wei failed and was exiled until he died.
