Biography[]

Hou Cheng was a cavalry commander under command of Lu Bu, and served in his army from beginning to end. Hou Cheng lost fifteen horses in the flood attack at Xiapi, but regained them by killing the traitor Hou Cao, who planned to sell them to Liu Bei. When he sent Lu Bu some wine, which he outlawed in Xiapi, he was punished by death, but Wei Xu and Song Xian intervened and prevented the execution. The next day, the three officers surrendered to Cao Cao and were awarded with high rank in Cao Cao's army. At the Battle of Guan Du, he was lucky to live; Wei Xu and Song Xian were killed in the battle by Yan Liang, Yuan Shao's best fighter.
