Li Ru was a strategist of Dong Zhuo.

Biography[]

Li Ru was the son-in-law of Dong Zhuo, and was the Lord Strategist of his regime over the Han Dynasty when he rose to power in AD 189. In AD 190, Li Ru took a handful of armed men and killed Emperor Shao, Empress Dong, and Empress He, in order to bring Dong Zhuo to full power over the House of Han. Li Ru then killed Yuan Wei and his family, and was then sent to Hu Lao Gate to defend it from Yuan Shao, who had formed an alliance of seventeen warlords. He led an archer unit that attacked Cao Cao's army from the southern gate, but Dong Zhuo's army defending the gate was defeated. Li Ru advised Dong Zhuo to raze Luoyang following the defeat. In AD 192, he advised giving Lu Bu overwhelming amounts of gifts to cease his anger and hostility towards Dong Zhuo, but when Dong Zhuo was killed, Lu Bu had Li Ru beheaded.
