Biography[]

Liu Yao was the brother of Liu Dai, the Governor of Yan Province, and was the Inspector of Yang Province in the domains of the Kingdom of Eastern Wu. Liu Yao invaded Jiangdong in AD 192 and took over the territory of the Governor of Changsha Sun Jian. When Sun Jian died in AD 192, he was succeeded by his eldest son Sun Ce. In AD 195, Sun Ce and his family invaded Jiangdong in order to reconquer his family's territory. Liu Yao sent out his generals Zhang Ying, Xue Li, and Taishi Ci to attack the invaders, and Xue Li's generals Fan Neng and Yu Mi were killed by Sun Ce. Zhang Ying was cut down later on, and Taishi Ci surrendered to Sun Ce after several duels. Liu Yao fled to Yangzhou, and died of illness.
