Sima Yi (司馬懿; 197-251) was a military general, politician, and regent of the state of Wei dynasty.
Biography[]
Sima Yi began his political career under the Han Dynasty's imperial chancellor Cao Cao, and was quickly promoted to higher office. He is perhaps best known for defending Wei from a series of invasions lead by Zhuge Liang.
After the passing of Cao Rui, he alongside Cao Shuang were made to preside as a regent for the young Cao Fang. As Sima Yi and Cao Shuang's relationship deteriorated due to multiple factors, he ousted Cao Shuang from power in a coup d'état and had him and his associates executed. He then became the primary authority in Wei until his death at the age of 72.
